Where Minnie asks what is happening. (My guess is that Charles is a public servant and shuttles between Lagos and the new capital, Abuja.) Charles is a little more friendly (My dear Minnie, indeed!) but gives nothing away. Modalities appear in the vocabulary.

Dear Charles,

Are you still there?

What is happening? Has the transaction fallen through?

You are very quiet.

Yours patiently,

Minnie Bannister.

My dear Minnie,

How are you doing today? I hope you are fine. Well I am sorry that I have not been responding to your message for some time and this is as a result of my traveling out of town to our country's capital for a meeting resolving around issues of resource control in my country.

For now, I am very much on ground to conclude this transaction with you within the shortest possible time because I am planning to terminate my services with the Ministry immediately we conclude this transaction for me to come over to your country and settle down. I want to thank you again for agreeing to assist me in this matter and I guarantee you that you will not regret it in the long run. I assure you that you have nothing to worry about as far as this transaction is concerned. Nobody will ask questions about it because the company we are going to register for you over here is a big company with enough shares that will meet the requirements of most companies that execute contracts in my Ministry. As far as the conditions are met, there will be no problems whatsoever.

Minnie, you have to assist us in this transaction. You do not have to worry about anything as we are going to put all the necessary and relevant documents in place to prove that this transaction is 100% legal. . (Of course!) All the modalities . ("Modalities" is a word that keeps recurring in these letters. Beats me where it comes from.) for the successful conclusion of this transaction have been put in place and I again assure you of this. We will not be doing this if it were not possible. We are going to be here to guide and direct you on what to do. All we need from you is your dedicated cooperation, assistance and support, and with you following all our instructions diligently, all will be well with us eventually.

Please I will appreciate your giving me a call on my telephone number 234-80- 33301769 any time between 10:30 pm - 6am Nigerian time (+1 GMT) so that we can discuss further and I will then make you understand fully what we are about to do. Please try and give me a call; if you find it difficult to get the connection, do not relent in your efforts to reach me as you may know that in Nigeria, things are not as developed as it is in your country and our communication equipments are obsolete in my country. Please keep on trying till you can get me. I look forward to hearing from you and I wish you the best. Thank you and God bless you.

I am waiting for your urgent response to this mail.

Yours,

Charles.
