But Felicity resolves not to accept the ring. There will be tears...
Dear Kenneth, My prince,
I have anguished all day about your wonderfully kind act of sending me an engagement ring but really I don't think it is right and (please, no arguments!) I feel that I must return it to you when it arrives.
I really do not think that I am ready for the commitment that would go with acceptance of the ring.
I truly don't want to hurt you, and you will probably think me the most terrible of women, but I must do what I feel is right.
Please give me a reliable address to send the ring back to. I am still a bit concerned that the mail sent to the address you gave me before did not arrive. I would hate something as precious as the ring to also not arrive.
Yours full of all sorts of wretched and conflicting emotions,
Felicity.
